This species has a wide distribution with no known major widespread threats.
|Range Description:||Synodontis ocellifer is from basins of the Chad, Niger (plus the Benue), Volta, Senegal, and Gambia. This species has also been reported from Lake Turkana, but we have not been able to confirm these reports.|

|Habitat and Ecology:||This is a benthopelagic species. Maximum size 49.0 cm TL. Maturity 11.1 cm TL for the male and 12.0 cm TL for the female in the Kainji Lake in Nigeria.|
