In Kenya, the area northweast of Malindi and including the Tana delta are under extreme threat from large scale irrigation schemes for sugarcane and expanding rice and Jatropha cultivation. The finding of the species in irrigated ricefields was when the irrigation scheme had just started and it is unlikey to have persisted, especially given its large, woody habit. Just north of Arabuko-Sokoke National Park there is continuing development and conversion of coastal habitat of the coast due to housing and tourism infrastucture projects. Collection sites in the extreme north of Kenya are not currently under threat due to the security situation in that region.
There is no information on the threats to those sites in Pangani, Tanzania where this species was collected.
