Scientific Name: Mormyrus hildebrandti
Species Authority: Peters, 1882
Taxonomic Notes: Sometimes misspelled as Mormyrus hildebrandi (see Seegers et al., unpublished). The tentative synonymy of M. hildebrandti with M. kannume by Boulenger (1898) is dubious and not followed here (see Seegers et al., unpublished).

Justification:
Taxonomic uncertainty. According to Seegers et al. (2004) synonymy of M. hildebrandti with M. kannume by Boulenger (1898) is dubious and therefore not followed by them. Only known from its holotype.
