Endemic to Lake Malawi where it is thought to be widespread along the Mozambique shore. It has no known major, widespread threats.

Range Description:Endemic to Lake Malawi. Occurs on the coast from Makanjila Point and the Mozambican border. It also occurs further north along the shores of Mozambique up to Nkhungu.

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology:Occurs in the intermediate habitat in shallow water of about 10 m. It has also been observed occasionally in water of 20 m. Observed feeding from the biocover. This species is non-territorial and the males are usually found solitary, although small groups of females have been observed among rocks. Known by its scientific name in the aquarium trade
