Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology:Occurs in the intermediate habitat and in shallow sand areas where the lakebed is partly covered with small rocks. It has been observed down to 20 m. It feeds by turning over rocks or pebbles (which it grabs with its mouth) to check for invertebrates underneath. Usually solitary. Known by its scientific name in the aquarium trade. Max. size: Males attain a maximum size of 18 cm and females with an average size of about 11 cm.
