Listed as Data Deficient since it has only recently been described, and there is still very little information on its extent of occurrence, status and ecological requirements.

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: The confirmed sites for this species are from Fierenana to Andasibe in eastern Madagascar. It is likely to occur much more widely, and there are unconfirmed reports from Ranomafana far to the south. This species has been recorded from 900-1,200m asl.

Population: It is very abundant, but rarely encountered.

Habitat and Ecology: It lives in open swamps (in which it breeds) and flooded rainforest, and also in somewhat degraded forest.
Systems: Terrestrial; Freshwater

Major Threat(s): Its forest habitat is receding due to subsistence agriculture, timber extraction, charcoal manufacture, invasive spread of eucalyptus, livestock grazing and expanding human settlements.

Conservation Actions: It occurs on the border of the Réserve Spéciale d’Analamazaotra.
