Taxonomy [top]

Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family
ANIMALIA CHORDATA AMPHIBIA ANURA ARTHROLEPTIDAE

Scientific Name: Arthroleptis schubotzi
Species Authority: Nieden, 1911
Taxonomic Notes: There are major taxonomic problems with the genus Arthroleptis through much of Africa. In many cases, the available names can be referred only to museum specimens, not to animals in the field. This is because the identification of these species frequently depends more on their vocalizations than their morphology. This form almost certainly includes more than one species.

Assessment Information [top]

Red List Category & Criteria: Least Concern ver 3.1
Year Published: 2004
Assessor/s: Robert Drewes, Kim Howell
Reviewer/s: Global Amphibian Assessment Coordinating Team (Simon Stuart, Janice Chanson and Neil Cox)
Contributor/s:
Justification:
Listed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution, tolerance of a degree of habitat modification, presumed large population, and because it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a more threatened category.

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: Specimens have been assigned to this species from Kivu Province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, western Rwanda, northwestern Burundi, southwestern Uganda (Bwindi and Kibale Forests), and southwestern Tanzania (Mbisi Forest and Mount Rungwe). Its altitudinal range is unclear, but it at least occurs between 1,460 and 2,800m asl. Its distributional limits are still unclear, so the map should be considered approximate.
Countries:
Native:
Burundi; Congo, The Democratic Republic of the; Rwanda; Tanzania, United Republic of; Uganda

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology: It is a leaf-litter species that lives in closed tropical forest, savannah and forest remnants (farm-bush). It breeds by direct development, and is not dependent on water.
Systems: Terrestrial

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): There is little information, but it presumably cannot withstand the complete open access to its habitat.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: It is present in the Virunga National Park (Democratic Republic of Congo), Kibale National Park (Uganda) and Bwindi National Park (Uganda).
