A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from nine subpopulations in foothills forests on both sides of the Andes. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network, but potentially in the Cuyabeno and Yasuní protected areas. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
