Justification:
A shrub or tree endemic to the western slopes of the Ecuadorean Andes. Known from five populations, mostly in vegetation remnants. Confirmed to occur inside the Reserva Ecológica Los Ilinizas. The principal threats are forest conversion to croplands, fires and grazing.
