A shrub endemic to the eastern slopes of the Ecuadorean Andes. Known to occur in three locales along the road between El Chaco, Baeza and Cosanga. Protected in the Parque Nacional Sumaco-Napo-Galeras and in the Reserva Ecológica Cayambe-Coca. The principal threats are habitat destruction around growing human settlements, small-scale mining and logging. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums.
