|Scientific Name:||Ardisia koupensis Taton|
|Red List Category & Criteria:||Endangered B1ab(iii) ver 3.1|
|Reviewer(s):||Hilton-Taylor, C. & Pollock, C.M. (Red List Programme Office)|
This taxon was first described in 1979 from single collections from the western slopes of Mt Kupe, above Mbule town, and from the western slopes of Mt Nlonako, Kupe’s sister peak to the northeast, both collected in 1976. Further inventory work on Mt Kupe has added 17 more collections from two additional sites on the western slopes, being particularly prominent above Kupe Village. However, this species has not been found in the adjacent Bakossi Mountains.
The lower elevation sites for this taxon on Mt Kupe are significantly below the lower limit of effective forest conservation on the mountain and are therefore vulnerable to continuing habitat loss, particularly above the expanding town of Nyasoso. At 650 m alt. near Kupe Village it was recorded in forest very close to farmland; such sites are particularly at risk.
|Range Description:||Cameroon, SW Province: Mt Kupe (19 coll. from 3 sites), Mt Nlonako (1 coll.).|

|Current Population Trend:||Decreasing|
|Habitat and Ecology:||Occurs at mid-altitude to submontane closed canopy forest understorey, occasionally secondary forest; 650–1,250 m alt.|
|Conservation Actions:||Further inventory work at other submontane locations on Mt Kupe and Nlonako will likely reveal further sites for this taxon; it may then be downgraded to Vulnerable under the IUCN criteria. Continued protection of submontane forest above 1,000 m on Mt Kupe should ensure its future survival.|
