A hemiepiphytic herb endemic to western Ecuador, where it is known from ten collections in Cotopaxi and El Oro provinces. Three collections were made in 1935 in the Hacienda Solento, near Santa Rosa, and others have been made in the Río Chimbo valley, and in the Tenefuerte valley, at km 55 of the Quevedo-Latacunga road. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
