Justification:
A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is distributed widely, from Otavalo in the north to Yangana in Loja, and with a broad altitudinal range, from tropical forests to upper Andean vegetation. Known from ten subpopulations, eight in the Andean region and two on the coast. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network, but may be found in the Parque Nacional Podocarpus and the Reserva Ecológica Los Ilinizas. The coastal subpopulations have been reported in Santa Rosa and in the Bosque Protector Cerro Blanco near Guayaquil. The Andean subpopulations are mostly in Loja. Most of the collections were recorded in disturbed areas, which suggests some tolerance to disturbance.
