A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from three subpopulations in the upper Andes. Recorded 10 km west of Antisana volcano and potentially protected by the protected area of the same name. No precise locale data exists for the other two subpopulations. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
