A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from a single population discovered in 1976 near Areviatas Pilares Lake (Laguna Arrebatadas), between Amaluza and Palanda, in Loja province. Could occur in the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
