An epiphytic fern endemic to Ecuador, where it is known only from the type, collected in the nineteenth century in an unknown locale. More information is needed to assess its conservation status and potential threats; considered Data Deficient until those are clarified. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
