Justification:
A terrestrial herb endemic to Ecuador where it is known from two subpopulations in the southern paramos. One subpopulation was recorded on the Yangana-Cerro Toledo road, inside the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. Another record has an undefined locale, the label stating simply that it was "found near Loja in the cordillera oriental". Although the species is confirmed inside a protected area this is no guarantee for its protection because traces of fire have been observed near the population. The species is a pioneer and apparently is resistant to fires, but continuous fires will threaten its survival.
