A subshrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from eight subpopulations in the central Andes, especially in eastern Loja province. One subpopulation has been recorded inside the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. Two subpopulations have been recorded in unknown locales of Azuay province. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
