Justification:
A herb endemic to Ecuador, where it forms "pincushions" in the superparamo above 4,200 m on sandy wet soils or rocks. Typical species in this habitat are Azorella, Werneria humilis, Valeriana sp. and Agrostis sp. Collected in Cerro Yuibug-Pailacajas, between Chimborazo and Morona-Santiago provinces; in Cerro El Altar, in Pico de Canoningo; and east of Cerro Sara-Urcu, between Pichincha and Napo. All of the collections were recorded between 1995 and 1997. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
