Justification:
An epiphytic bromeliad endemic to Ecuador where it is known from a single population in Plan de Milagro, between Limón and Indanza. Both the type and a subsequent collection were recorded there. Not know to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network. The principal threat is the conversion of forest to pasture. The species' reproductive system is not well adapted to life in forest remnants or on isolated trees in pastures. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.

Range Description: Vriesea penduliscapa is endemic to Ecuador. It is known only from one population in Morona-Santiago province.
