Justification:
An epiphytic bromeliad endemic to Ecuador. The species type was collected in an unknown locale and cultivated by A. Blass. A second collection has been made near Lauro Guerrero, Loja province. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network but may be present in similar habitats of the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. The principal threat is the conversion of forest to croplands. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
