A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from four collections in the central Andes and Azuay province. The dates and locales of these collections are in doubt, but it is known that the species has not been collected in the last 45 years. Potentially occurs in the Llanganates, Sangay, Chimborazo and Cajas protected areas. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the main threat to the species.
