The area of occupancy is less than 10km² with very fragmented distribution and the habitat is declining. It therefore meets the IUCN criteria for Critically Endangered based on the small area, the single locality and the decline in habitat quality and extent.

Range Description: Found only once since 1900 (1996) on Réunion island. The only locations previous to that are in Northern Madagascar.
