A shrub or tree endemic to Ecuador's northern Andes, where it is known only from three collections. The one in Pichincha province is from the road between Julio Andrade and Palestina. The two in Carchi province are from the Lloa valley and an undetermined locale. Last recorded in 1981. Not confirmed in an Ecuadorean protected area, but expected to be found in the Reserva Ecológica Cayambe-Coca. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
