Justification:
A shrub, treelet or tree endemic to southeastern Ecuador, where it is known from nine populations. Four are on the Loja–Zamora road and five are around Cerro Toledo, on the Yangana–Valladolid road, in the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. Classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN in 1998 (VU B1+2c) and "Rare" in 1997 (Oldfield et al. 1998, Walter and Gillett 1998). Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
