This species has a disjunct anti-tropical distribution. Although it is a small species of no fisheries significance, there is little information known about the population status, or the impact of potential threats. It is therefore listed as Data Deficient.

Range Description:This species is found from Japan (Masuda et al. 1984) to Taiwan (Shao 1997), New Caledonia and New South Wales (Australia) (Yearsley et al. 1997). It has also been recorded in Palau (Bishop Museum 1999) and Papua New Guinea (Allen et al. 2003).

Habitat and Ecology:A small species, to about 92 mm SL. Shallow ranging, it occurs at depths of about 30-35 m on rocky reefs (Masuda et al. 1975). It has also been recorded at depths of 20 m.
