Although there are threats known in the Luapula-Mweru region (overfishing) and in the Katanga region (mining), the species is listed as Least Concern because it has a relatively broad distribution. Central Africa: It is found in Katanga (Democratic Republic of the Congo), and from the Luapula-Chambezi River system.
Southern Africa: This species has been recorded in Lac Calundo (Angola).
