Taxonomy [top]

Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family
Animalia Chordata Reptilia Squamata Colubridae

Scientific Name: Oligodon calamarius (Linnaeus, 1758)
Coluber calmarius Linnaeus, 1758
Oligodon templetoni Günther, 1862
Taxonomic Source(s): Uetz, P., Freed, P. and Hošek, J. (eds). 2018. The Reptile Database. Available at: (Accessed: 06 February 2018).
Taxonomic Notes: The species name name calamarius was replaced by templetoni because Coluber calamariuswas considered to be the legitimate type species of Calamaria (see Brongersma et al. 1966, Bull. Zool. Nomencl. 22). However, Calamaria linnaei was later declared the type species of Calamaria by ICZN Opinion 2196. This species was therefore renamed from templetoni to calamarius and Oligodon calamarius is thus the correct name for this taxon (Uetz et al. 2018).
