Scientific Name: Galea monasteriensis
Species Authority: Solmsdorff, Kock, Hohoff & Sachser, 2004
Taxonomic Notes: This species was described from individuals imported to Germany for laboratory experiments. The species was recognized based on morphological, behavioural, and reproductive differences from known Galea spp. (see Solmsdorff et al. 2004, and Trillmich et al. 2004).

This species is listed as Data Deficient because it has only recently been described and there is no information known from the wild; it was described from individuals found at one locality and sent to Germany. The species is in need of further work on taxonomy, distribution, threats and ecology.

Range Description: The species is known only from the type locality, where the holotype and several other individuals were wild-trapped in 1997 in Valle Hermoso, 2,557 m asl, (66°09'W, 17°23'S), south of Cochabamba, Cordillera Oriental, in Cochabamba Province, Bolivia (Solmsdorff et al., 2004).

Population: The species is known only from wild caught individuals sent to Germany from the type locality (J. Dunnum pers. comm.).
