Assessment Information [top]

Red List Category & Criteria: Data Deficient     ver 3.1
Year Assessed: 2004
Assessor/s Smale, M.J. (SSG Subequatorial Africa Regional Workshop, September 2003)
Evaluator/s: Cavanagh, R.D., Kyne, P.M. & Fowler, S.L. (Shark Red List Authority)
Justification:
This endemic skate is apparently a very rare species and is known from only three specimens from Mozambique (off the Limpopo river at approximately 435 m) despite fairly extensive research surveys in the area recently. Considered Data Deficient at this time, it may be found in deeper waters when these are surveyed more thoroughly. It could be threatened by trawl and longline fisheries off Mozambique.
