Justification: A terrestrial herb endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from a few old collections in the Andes. The only subpopulation with detailed locale information was recorded at the Hacienda Isco, in the foothills of Volcán Antisana, more than 100 years ago. This subpopulation may now be inside the Reserva Ecológica Antisana. The species may be a synonym of Aetheolaena senecioides or S. iscoensis (Nordenstam in Jørgensen and León-Yánez 1999). No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species. |
