Justification:
A vine or liana endemic to Ecuador, described from two recent collections in the Reserva Etnica Awá. One was made on the trail to San Marcos (Gualpi Medio area, Parroquia El Chical) at 1,800–2,000 m elevation, and the other in Cantón San Lorenzo, at 250 m. The area is still well preserved but some areas are being severely deforested. Probably occurs in Colombia, as well as in the Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi-Cayapas. Seems to flower from March to May. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
