Justification:

Unlike the case with U. imperator (see entry) there is "no clear local knowledge of this species, and it is probably extinct" (Groves and Flannery 1994: 151). However, the conclusion that these two species disappeared at different times, as the present analysis implies, is based entirely on negative evidence.

The date of NHML registration of the only known specimen is 1899; probably collected near Aola at the same time as U. imperator specimens or shortly thereafter (Flannery 1991, Groves and Flannery 1994: 157). The species was not found during Flannery’s search in May 1990 (Flannery 1991).
