Taxonomic Notes: One of the most distinct shrews in Africa. According to Nowak (1999) Surdisorex is a subgenus of Mysorex and should be transferred accordingly.

Habitat and Ecology

Habitat and Ecology: This species inhabits unique moss and heather cloud forest ranging between 2,800-3,300 m asl. It is thought to burrow in moss and leaf mold forming tunnels in which it lives. Its diet is predominantly composed of earthworms.
