Geographic Range

Range Description: Pitta megarhyncha occurs in Bangladesh (probably a very local resident in the Sundarbans, common at Khulna), Myanmar (scarce to locally common), Peninsular Thailand (uncommon to locally common in west), Peninsular Malaysia (locally common; also one record from East Malaysia), Singapore and Indonesia (south from Riau archipelago, through eastern lowlands of Sumatra, to Bangka). It is restricted to coastal mangroves, a habitat that is suffering severe pressure through clearance for fuel-wood, charcoal production and construction materials. Moreover, the linear nature of its distribution suggests that its total population size might be relatively small.

Bangladesh; Indonesia; Malaysia; Myanmar; Singapore; Thailand
