This species was described in 1922 from a single damaged skull thought to have been collected on the Darling Downs, Queensland, some time prior to 1846.

Habitat and Ecology:	Australian hopping mice inhabit sand dunes, grasslands, tree and shrub heaths, and lightly wooded areas.

The reasons for the loss of this species are unknown, but may be related to predation rates by introduced predators such as foxes and domestic cats.
