Justification:

Notomys macrotis is known only from two specimens collected from southwestern Western Australia. The last specimen was collected in 1843.

Range Description:	The big-eared hopping mouse, Notomys macrotis was endemic to Western Australia.

Habitat and Ecology

Habitat and Ecology:	Australian hopping mice inhabit sand dunes, grasslands, tree and shrub heaths, and lightly wooded areas.

The reasons for the loss of this species are unknown, but may be related to predation rates by introduced predators such as foxes and domestic cats.
