Justification: Notomys macrotis is known only from two specimens collected from southwestern Western Australia. The last specimen was collected in 1843.

Range Description: The big-eared hopping mouse, Notomys macrotis was endemic to Western Australia.

Population: It is known only from two specimens, the last being collected in 1843.

Habitat and Ecology

Habitat and Ecology: Australian hopping mice inhabit sand dunes, grasslands, tree and shrub heaths, and lightly wooded areas.
System: Terrestrial

Threats

Threats: The reasons for the loss of this species are unknown, but may be related to predation rates by introduced predators such as foxes and domestic cats.
