Taxonomic Notes: Nasalis larvatus orientalis: Nasalis was craniometrically reviewed by Groves (1970), but his skull sample excluded most of the potential geographic distribution. It remains to be refuted that there is a population without a nuchal hair tract.

Range Description: N. larvatus is endemic to Borneo. It occurs over much of the island, except for central Sarawak and possibly northeast Kalimantan.

Habitat and Ecology: The species is found in riverine and coastal forest areas, including mangroves (Meijaard and Nijman 2000).

Threats

Threats: The main threat to the species is loss of habitat through conversion to agricultural land and logging. A further threat to their survival is hunting (Meijaard and Nijman 2000).
