The members of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) provide many of the assessments and much of the documentation included on the searchable database. The Red List would not exist if it were not for the contributions from this network of scientists and conservationists. All the bird assessments are provided by BirdLife International and its partners. The contribution of the GMA to the 2004 IUCN Red List has been limited largely to the assessments conducted at the African Small Mammals Workshop (see list of participants above under workshops). The IUCN Freshwater Biodiversity Assessment Programme has contributed assessments to the 2004 IUCN Red List as a result of regional assessment projects they have conducted. Will Darwall, the Programme Officer, and his interns Thomas Lowe and Kevin Smith are thanked for their help in running the projects and processing these assessments and the supporting documentation for the Red List. The East African Freshwater Biodiversity Assessment project was carried out with financial support from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DGIS) under the Partners for Wise Use of Wetlands Programme, managed by Wetlands International. Conservation International Madagascar provided funding for a project to evaluate the conservation status of endemic freshwater fish of Madagascar (assessed initially at a CBSG CAMP Workshop, see above) and to map their distributions. The IUCN water and Nature Initiative (WANI) also provides support to this Programme.
