Not known to occur in Ecuador's protected areas network but may persist in the Cordillera de Chongón and Colonche, and other areas preserving dry vegetation on the coast. Seriously threatened by habitat destruction and fragmentation during last century. The endemic species A. eggersii was collected in the same locale and around the same time. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
