Justification:
Both varieties are listed as threatened, and although var ankaratrae is listed as Vulnerable (this is probably an under lisiting), the species as a whole is considered Endangered. This is because the combined extent of occurrence is < 5,000 km² and the combined area of occupancy is < 500 km². The number of locations is certainly less than five and the range is severely fragmented. There is continuing decline due to habitat loss and degradation.

Range Description: Madagascar: Ankaratra mountains, where it is thought to be rare; and in the Fianarantsoa area and Andringitra reserve where it is locally common.
