The species is poorly understood and its relations with E. iharanae, E. capmanambatoensis and E. caput-aureum are to be studied. It is known only from the Montagne des Francais, but it may also occur further south. The unique Tsingy habitat in which E. aureoviridiflora can be found, is threatened by fires. There are no current measures to protect this species, which occurs outside the northern reserves.
