Justification: According to Braun and Esteves Pereira (1988) and Schulz and Machado (2000) this species is on the verge of extinction and is scarcely if at all in cultivation, where it has proved very difficult. Affected by collection of plants and seed, fire and trampling by cattle. The population has been fragmented into a number of tiny subpopulations.

Range Description:	Found at c. 1,200 m on the Serra Negra in Minas Gerais.
