This species is listed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution, presumed large population, and because it is unlikely to be declining at nearly the rate required to qualify for listing in a threatened category.

Range Description: This species occurs in central to southern Chile and Argentina (Musser and Carleton 2005). Teta et al. (2002) give easternmost records in Río Negro and Chubut Provinces of Patagonian Argentina.

Habitat and Ecology: This species is omnivorous and inhabits a range of habitats from dense forest to bushy steppe and marsh (Guthmann et al. 1997). Typically occurs in Andean forests and western Patagonia piedmont (Jayat et al. 2006).
