This species has an area of occupancy of 99.856 km2 and is found in 5-10 locations where the threat is from coastal development.  There is a continuing decline in the extent and quality of habitat of this species.

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: Recorded from the coastal region of Kenya into northern Mozambique (Nangade-Pamma). A number of the places from which it was formerly recorded no longer possess suitable habitat for this species.  This species may have been overloooked in forest between collecting localities.

Population: No population size estimates for this species are available but this species is not common.
Population Trend: Decreasing

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology: A tree reaching 35m tall.  Found in lowland evergreen forest, particularly along the coast and sometimes on dolomite outcrops.

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): Gongoni  Forest Reserve is under threat from road construction and hotel construction within the reserve.  More generally, there is widespread destruction of coastal forests due to agricultural expansion, urban expansion and tourism develpoment.  Magombera suffers from lack of full protection.  Habitat around Lake Lutamba, where this species has been recorded, is under threat from conversion for agriculture.  There is also the mining of dolomite/karst regions for limestone.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions:

Found in the Gongoni Forest Reserve, Pande Game Reserve, Pugu Forest Reserve, Selous Game Reserve and Magombera Forest Reserve.  However, there is  very little protection in Pande and Pugu Forest Reserves although there has been a slight improvement in Pande now that it is under the protection of the Tanzania National Parks.  Magombera Forest Reserve suffers from a lack of full protection.
