Justification: Known only from a single location to the east of Andilamena, in an area estimated to be less than 6 km² (extent of occurrence and are of occupancy). The forest fragment where the palm grows is not protected. Even though the place is not easy to access, the forest is being destroyed because the local population are clearing the forest to cultivate hill rice. Moreover, numerous finds of rubies have been made at Behorefo, nearby. This palm is also threatened by many holes dug by miners inside the forest in order to look for minerals. This species meets the requirements for listing as Critically Endangered.

Range Description:	Endemic to Madagascar where it is known from a single site to the east of Andilamena.

Population:	About 30 mature individuals are known and the population is declining.
Population Trend:	Decreasing

Habitat and Ecology:	Occurs in montane forest with bamboos and pandans, the ground is covered by moss which forms a continuous lawn in places. The species occurs in a narrow altitudinal range between 700 and 800 m.

Major Threat(s):	The main threats to this species are habitat loss through clearance for shifting and permanent agriculture (especially rice fields) and logging and habit clearance and disturbance due to mining exploitation.
