This species is sometimes found in the aquarium trade and is found in East Africa and Madagascar, but no major threats are known.  Although it is a relatively large species, it is found in deeper waters.  It is listed as Least Concern, however more research is needed on its population and biology.

Range Description: This species occurs from eastern Africa and Madagascar, and is also distributed in Southeastern Arabia  (Clark and Rowe 1971).
