Schistura savona is a widely distributed species in the Himalaya from Uttar Pradesh across Nepal to Darjeeling with no major identified threats. Hence it is assessed as Least Concern.
|Range Description:||Schistura savona is found along the eastern Himalaya in Tista drainage at Darjeeling through Nepal, to Karnali and Kali drainages in Uttar Pradesh (Menon 1987)|

There is no information on the population and its trends for this species, but survey data suggests that it is relatively widespread and common.
|Habitat and Ecology:||The species is found to inhabit rapid hillstreams with gravel.|
|Use and Trade:||The species is not utilized, but is a potential ornamental fish.|
No known major threats known to this species.
The species is not known from any protected areas, and clearly there is a need for improved habitat protection at sites where this species is known to occur. Further survey work is needed to determine whether or not this species is experiencing a decline, or is undergoing natural population fluctuations.
