Listed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution, presumed large population and no apparent major threats.
|Range Description:||This species is endemic to the western Indian Ocean where it ranges from Somalia in the north to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa). Populations have also been reported from the Seychelles, Mauritius, Réunion and are probably found at Madagascar (G.R. Allen pers. comm. 2006). This species is generally found at depths from 30-200 m, although juveniles can be found as shallow as 8 m.|
