This species is found only in the littoral region of Lake Šasko, in Montenegro. The lake itself is very small, with a surface area of 3.5km2. There are existing threats to the habitats and known localities from eutrophication of the lake and interruption of communication with the river Bojana. This species is therefore considered to be Critically Endangered (CR) B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii).
